Files you import
Day One and Apple Journal come in as files. You export them, hand them to Muninn, and Muninn reads them on your phone.
Day One
- In Day One, export your journal as JSON. If it offers to include photos or attachments, leave them out: Muninn doesn’t use them, and the export gets much smaller and quicker. You get a
.zipfile. - Unzip it. Muninn wants the
.jsonfile inside. - Get it onto the phone: AirDrop, iCloud Drive, or anywhere the Files app can reach.
- In Muninn, Settings → Sources → Import Day One JSON…, and choose the file.
Entries on the same day are merged in order. Hashtags are extracted and indexed so you can search them. Photos and attachments in the export are skipped; Muninn shows your own photo library for that day instead.
Importing again is a full synchronisation, not a merge: entries in the new export overwrite earlier ones, and days missing from it are removed. A partial export deletes the days it leaves out, so always export the whole journal.
Apple Journal
Apple’s Journal app exports a folder rather than a single file: an Entries folder with one page per entry, and a Resources folder beside it. Muninn wants the whole folder.
- In Journal, export your journal and save the folder where the Files app can see it.
- In Muninn, Settings → Sources → Import Apple Journal Export…, and choose the folder.
- Review the places. Muninn shows them next to what’s already on those days before anything is added. Places that look like ones already there start switched off.
Each entry’s title and text join the day it was written. Nothing is overwritten: a day that already has writing is offered for merging, and you choose. Places from its maps and photos become check-ins on that day. Photos, workouts and moods in the export stay behind for now.
