Why by Hand?
Two of Muninn’s sources ask more of you than most apps would, and the imports take a few steps. Here’s why, and what each one takes.
A few things are more complicated than others…
An app that connects to Swarm or Träwelling usually keeps your credentials on a server the developer runs. You tap a button, that server does the negotiation, and your tokens live there afterwards. It takes four seconds, and from then on your check-ins are someone else’s to secure, under terms they can change.
Muninn has no server, on purpose. So the few things a server would do for you, you do once, by hand, and no third party sits between you and your data.
What each source takes
| Source | What it takes | Where data goes |
|---|---|---|
| Photos and Calendar | One permission prompt | Nowhere, since it's on your devices anyway. |
| Weather, world history | Nothing | We send a rounded coordinate and a date anonymously to OpenMeto and Wikipedia to get those data. They're saved, so we won't have to ask again. |
| Day One | Export a file from Day One, import it into Muninn | Nowhere, there's no network request from Muninn |
| Apple Journal | Export a folder, import it | Nowhere, Muninn uses your local export, no network request. |
| Träwelling | Paste a personal access token | Phone ⇄ Träwelling |
| Swarm | Register your own developer app, then sign in | Phone ⇄ Foursquare |
