Muninn
Guide: Getting started

Getting started

Muninn shows this date across every year you’ve lived, from sources you already have. Here’s how to get it, what happens the first time you open it, and where your days end up.

Get it

Muninn is in open beta on TestFlight for iPhone, iPad and Mac, and needs iOS 26 or macOS 26 or later. One link joins all of them: join the beta on each device you want it on, install TestFlight if it asks (on the Mac it comes from the Mac App Store), then install Muninn from there. The App Store release follows.

Muninn for Mac is an app of its own, for macOS 26 or later, and opens the same days from the same iCloud Drive. It reads, writes and imports Day One and Apple Journal, and shows the check-ins and train journeys your phone has fetched. It doesn’t import from Swarm or Träwelling itself: connect those on an iPhone or iPad.

The first time you open it

The first time you open Muninn, it collects some of the things already on your phone. Today’s photos through the years (switch on in Settings → Sources) and calendar entries.

Photos asks for permission the first time you open a day. Calendar starts off, and asks when you switch it on in Settings → Sources.

Where your days are kept

Muninn keeps a chronicle: one record per day, written as plain JSON into your own iCloud Drive, so you need to be signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive on. There’s no account and no server for Muninn to contact, so nothing is kept anywhere else. Your data stay on your phone. You can open the files in the Files app and copy them out at any time. The privacy policy lists every byte that ever leaves your phone.

Where a day comes from

Every source can be switched off in Settings → Sources. They connect in three ways:

Nothing to set up
Photos and Calendar are read on your phone. Weather and world history come from two public sources that never learn who is asking.
Files you import
Day One and Apple Journal, from exports you make yourself.
Accounts you connect
Träwelling and Swarm take a few minutes each, because Muninn has no server to do it for you. Why by hand. On iPhone and iPad only; the Mac shows what they fetched.

If something looks wrong

When something goes wrong covers the usual suspects. If that doesn’t help, write to hello@mymuninn.app. I read every email myself.
